Meet Isla

When dogs come to us, they live with volunteer foster families so we can get to know their individual personalities. This also means we can match them with their ideal forever family when they are ready to be rehomed. We’re delighted to bring you an update on Isla who is currently being fostered by Becky, one of our lovely volunteers.

Isla2

Isla is a gorgeous 2 year old girl who is looking for a home of her own. She is in foster with small dogs and is a super friendly girl.

Isla1

She can be a bit nervous at times but takes confidence from other dogs. She loves to play so would be better suited to a home with another dog. She is great on the lead, good in the car and in the house.

Isla3

She is still young so learns quickly. If you think you could offer Isla, or any of our other dogs, a home, we would love to hear from you.

Don’t forget our meet and greet this Sunday!

Don’t forget to pop along to our ‘Meet & Greet’ this Sunday 24th September at Stewart Park, Middlesbrough from 9am to 2pm (weather permitting).

Permanent foster needed for these two beauties

It’s under extremely sad and difficult circumstances that we have been asked to take these two older sweethearts under our wing.

Bill and Sky

The rough coated lurcher girl is Sky and she is 7 years old. The fawn boy is Bill and he is 12 years old. Both dogs are good with kids and other dogs.

Bill sadly has arthritis.  Both need permanent foster and G.R.A.C.E will provide veterinary costs and food etc.  All we need is a special someone to offer them a home and love them.

Bill and Sky are in the North East and are very loved and cared for.

Leaving their family home will be traumatic enough for them, so we are looking to re-home Bill and Sky together as they are already so well bonded.

Thank you Asda South Bank

Thanks to Asda South Bank we received a cheque recently for £200, after being involved in the store’s token collection scheme. Greyhounds Ella, Fran and Jonah loved meeting everyone! And a special thank you to G.R.A.C.E founder Tracy Cook and volunteers Michele Smith and Becky Daley too.

Raising much-needed funds

As well as finding foster and forever homes, we also get out and about to raise much-needed funds. As our charity is run entirely by volunteers, every single penny goes to the welfare of the dogs. As well as paying for food, treats, toys and bedding, the money we raise helps to cover veterinary costs, such as neutering, vaccination, worming, flea treatment, plus any surgical procedures some of the greyhounds in our care need.

Guisborough Market

One of our regular fund raising events is to hold a stall at Guisborough Market from 9am until 3pm (weather and availability permitting) – see our Facebook page, or events section of our website for details. As well as selling dog-related items, we also run a tombola. Pop along to say hello to Tracy, Gary and other G.R.A.C.E volunteers. There are usually a couple of greyhounds lending a helping paw too! P.S. If you have any suitable items for the stall or tombola, we would love to hear from you.

Showing that greyhounds make ‘greyt’ pets

We were blessed with a bit of sunshine at the Ingleby Barwick Family Fun Day recently. The organisers persuaded us to enter Paris, Blake and Francesca into the Fun Dog Show. They didn’t win any prizes, but showed everyone what ‘greyt’ pets greyhounds make. They are all winners in our eyes!

Thank you to our volunteers!

Our charity is run entirely by volunteers. That means all the money we raise goes directly to the welfare of the dogs in our care. Since Tracy Cook set up Greyhound Rescue and Co-ordinated Emergencies (GRACE) in 2011, she has rescued and rehabilitated around 2,000 greyhounds. She doesn’t get paid for this work. She does it because she loves sighthounds and understands the cruelty that so many racing greyhounds suffer.

Tracy

To help Tracy in her work, we have a team of volunteers who give their time and energy for free too. Thank you to each and every one of you. There are too many to mention here, but in particular, we would like to give a special mention to Gary, Michele, Tricia, Jackie, Becky and Ruth who always go the extra mile!

Thank you Jackie!

Our lovely G.R.A.C.E volunteer Jackie Debbage has been raising funds for us again – this time in the sweltering heat. Thank you Jackie – you are a real star!

Thank you for joining us for the Great Global Greyhound Walk

Thank you to all the hounds and humans who joined us for the Great Global Greyhound Walk on 11 June at Preston Park. You were part of something big! Altogether there were 169 walks worldwide on that day, with 5,702 sighthounds taking part.

Sighthound Hardwick Walk North East

It wasn’t the warmest of days, but G.R.A.C.E dogs Bridie, Curtis, Nadia (Borzoi), Hardy and new blue boy (still to be named!) joined in a lovely sighthound walk around Hardwick Park today.
