GRACE volunteer Doreen has been given this football shirt from Ross Turnbull, ex-Boro and ex-Chelsea goalkeeper. It is a team-signed shirt from Ross’ last year at Chelsea. It is signed by a lot of top class players, including Eden Hazard, Juan Mata, John Terry, Frank Lampard, Ashley Cole, Fernando Torres, John Obi Mikel and more.
Doreen has set up an auction for the shirt, which has been posted on a number of relevant sites, as well as our main GRACE and fundraising pages on Facebook:
https://www.facebook.com/RescueAGreyhound/ https://www.facebook.com/GRACE-Fundraising-Page-366323137129848/
As of 26 June, the highest bid stands at £210. All proceeds are for GRACE. Please tell your football friends. The auction will end Friday 3rd July at 6pm.
You might have read that we urgently needed to help poor GRACE foster girl Lacey, who broke her leg in two places and needed surgery. The vet bill stood at £5,781.82
Step forward GRACE volunteer Doreen, who went into fundraising overdrive by organising number draws and our very first GRACE online auction, where people bid on handcrafted and donated items. Some lovely children even made pictures to sell to their family.
The amazing news is that thanks to Doreen’s campaign and donations, we generated enough funds for Lacey’s vet bill. We are also halfway covering the cost of her check-up, which we believe is going to be about £500.
So a ‘greyt’ big thank you to Doreen, who is one in a million! We would also like to thank Doreen’s husband John, plus their dogs Max and Sky who lent a paw. And last but not least, thank you to Jackie, all our other GRACE volunteers and everyone who has supported us with their kindness and generosity. We really couldn’t do what we do without all of you.
A huge thank you to the colleagues at Asda Thornaby who have made this huge donation of food to help our hounds.
Those who follow us on Facebook will know the story of Lacey, a GRACE girl with a severely broken hind leg. Due to complications of the break, neither our’s or Julie and Iain’s vets were able to repair Lacey’s leg. The options we were given were: euthanasia (obviously not an option), amputation or surgery at a referral hospital. We chose surgery as desperately wanted to save Lacey’s leg.
The good news is that Lacey has had her surgery, which included attaching plates to her fibia and tibia, although she still has a long way to go. Unfortunately that surgery doesn’t come cheap. We are awaiting the final vet bill, but the estimate is £4,500-£5,000
To offset the cost of Lacey’s vet bill, our amazing volunteer Doreen has organised lots of virtual fundraising activities, including our first online auction, which finishes at 1pm on 15/06/20. See our fundraising page on Facebook for details (https://www.facebook.com/GRACE-Fundraising-Page-366323137129848/). We will continue to update you on Lacey’s progress, but want to say a huge thank you to Doreen and everyone who has taken part, made a donation or sent best wishes to Lacey.
As an independent rescue charity, run entirely by volunteers, we always welcome support and donations. If you would like to get involved, you can find details on the ‘How to Help’ section of our website. Thank you.
Happy Birthday to GRACE boy Sian, a big, bubbly greyhound boy. Sian is currently being fostered by one of our amazing GRACE volunteers, so he is still looking for his forever home. Sian is doing great and learning the ropes. If you would like to know more about Sian, please get in touch with us.
A ‘greyt’ big thank you to adopted GRACE boy Spud, who has saved his pocket money and asked his Mum and Dad to send it to us.
You are such a kind boy Spud for helping other GRACE hounds – don’t forget to take it easy during the lockdown!
Our talented artist friend and GRACE supporter Jo Brodie has created another piece of original artwork. What’s more, proceeds are kindly being donated to GRACE.
This piece of art will be available soon on Jo’s Etsy page under ‘jobrodieart.’ Thank you so much Jo!
Former GRACE boy Ted turned 8 years old this week. His Mum sent us these gorgeous photos of Ted enjoying his birthday treat (sardine, mash, broccoli and carrot cake).
Happy Birthday Ted, you have certainly landed on your paws!
We just want to say a special thank you to all the people who donate behind the scenes. Some give large cash donations; some send payments via our bank account or PayPal and others make regular donations. We know that you make these donations privately and don’t always want your names mentioning, but we would like to say a huge thank you to each and every one of you from the hounds and all of us at GRACE. Your amazing support is really, really appreciated!
